Moving in Leiden Without a Care in the World
‘Everything Was Perfect Down to the Last Detail’
A ten out of ten. That was the rating given to Leiden-based moving and transport company Jan van Duuren by Milca Mulders.
In her own words, the move in February from Melchior Treublaan to Buitenruststraat in Leiden’s Tuinstadwijk neighbourhood went ‘perfectly’.
Milca Mulders and her boyfriend Andy Wilson were not actually looking for a new home.
However, as a former Estec employee, Andy would have liked a spacious home office for his collection of books about space exploration. This was not possible in their house on Melchior Treublaan. In addition, the house was in need of a major renovation, including improvements to make it more energy efficient. Milca explains: “We suddenly saw the corner house on Buitenrustlaan and immediately fell in love with it. Andy now has a spacious office on the ground floor, while I have an office with a rooftop terrace. The house has been made more energy efficient with solar panels and a heat pump, and it was in excellent condition. We could move straight in.”
All that was left was to find a moving company to transport the dozens of boxes of books, as well as the furniture, to their new home. Milca came across Leiden-based moving company Van Duuren online, and after sending a message, a home visit and quotation followed. “It immediately felt right, so we didn’t even look any further.” She has no regrets about that decision. Van Duuren provided the book and moving boxes, which they packed themselves. Then, on a Thursday afternoon in February, everything was loaded and, a day later, unloaded at their new home just a short distance away.
“The movers worked incredibly hard and were so friendly and attentive, with an eye for detail.
For example, there was a sideboard that was slightly uneven. They placed an extra felt pad underneath it so that the door would open properly again. They repaired a floor lamp because a wire was sticking out. The dishwasher was delivered to a neighbour without any problems, and they added missing felt pads underneath a cabinet to prevent scratches. And all of this was done without any additional charges,” says Milca.
She had labelled everything in the house herself, much to the surprise of the movers. “At one point, I even put a label on Andy,” she says with a laugh.
For the time being, they are still busy unpacking the boxes of books. Milca: “That takes a little longer, but even that is no problem with Van Duuren. So yes, I can only recommend this company.”
